There was deepening opposition Thursday afternoon to the pending installation of former Councillor for the Mandeville Division, Sally Porteous as Custos Rotulorum for Manchester.
Justices of the Peace in Manchester staged a walkout at Thursday's Lay Magstrate's half yearly meeting at the Golf View Hotel in Mandeville, intensifying their declaration that they will not be co-operating with Ms. Porteous.
Several Manchester residents with placards also staged a protest calling for the intervention of Governor General Sir Patrick Allen.
One disgruntled J.P. vowed that she would not be working with Ms. Porteous if she is installed.
In the meantime longstanding Justice of the Peace, Calvin Lyn blasted fellow Justices as cowards for not coming out in support of the call for a new Custos.
"Because some, they talk behind back ….. so many have complained to me. Some are men and some are boys." said Mr Lyn.
A petition signed by more than one hundred residents against the appointment was reportedly sent to Governor General Sir Patrick Allen, Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller and Justice Minister, Mark Golding this week.
Ms. Porteous reportedly cut her greetings short following the walkout.
Efforts to reach her were unsuccessful .
On Wednesday, Miss Porteous described the actions against her appointment as mischievous, insisting that she has no intention of bowing to the pressure for her to step aside.
