Guyana targets US$60m savings in imports with agro processing investments

Guyana's president, Dr Irfaan Ali, says investments in the agro processing sector will see savings of US$60 million on key imports by 2027.

Dr Ali says stakeholders in the local agricultural sector will be able to increase production of corn, soy beans, and shrimp to meet demand.

He says his government continues to invest in the required infrastructure and programmes to unleash the potential of agricultural entrepreneurs to produce high-quality products.

The Guyana government plans to establish regional and sub-regional hubs by procuring more agro-processing facilities in various regions to improve the shelf life and enhance the transportation and logistics of products.
