The Hanover police have charged a 21-year-old man accused of using a firearm last month to threaten a woman with whom he reportedly had an intimate relationship.
Calceito Smith, otherwise called "Devin", of Kingsvale in the parish, has been charged with possession of prohibited weapon, assault at common law, kidnapping at common law and using a firearm to commit a felony.
It was reported that on September 17, Mr. Smith visited the home of the complainant in Rock Spring and demanded that she leave with him.
When his demands were not met, he reportedly brandished a handgun and forcefully took the complainant from the house, whilst threatening to harm her and her family if they contacted the police.
He subsequently fled the area with the complainant in a motor car.
The police were alerted and Mr .Smith was apprehended during an operation on September 27 in Montego Bay, St. James.
The complainant was rescued.
Mr. Smith was pointed out on an identification parade on October 6 and charged the following day.
