The Jamaica Moves brand which became embroiled in controversy last year has now been transferred to the Health Ministry, with the programme set to continue.
The ministry and its contractor, Market Me, were at loggerheads over the ownership of the brand after it was revealed that the company had registered the name and logo in 2018 as its intellectual property.
Speaking in the House of Representatives Wednesday afternoon, Health Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton announced the matter has now been resolved.
He, however, recognised Market Me for creating the brand, coordinating its execution, including private sector support and "[working] up to this point with the Ministry of Health and Wellness, the NGO community and private players to make this brand not just a Jamaican initiative but a regional initiative."
He said Jamaica Moves will continue to be the flagship physical activity programme for the Health Ministry.
Dr. Tufton added that the ministry is launching a pilot software application called JaMoves on the Move!! as part of an initiative to promote self-monitoring of personal health status.
In addition to the intellectual property issue, the Jamaica Moves programme was called into question last year over the process through which Market Me was engaged.
