Hurricane Beryl claims three lives in Grenada, Prime Minister declares emergency

Grenada's Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell

Grenada's Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell says at least three people were killed after Hurricane Beryl battered Grenada and its sister islands on Monday with winds in excess of 140 miles per hour.

He said efforts are being made to secure a helicopter to visit the areas where the fatalities occurred as the seas between the islands are still very rough.

Mr. Mitchell said the cabinet will meet in emergency session on Tuesday afternoon, following a meeting of CARICOM leaders Tuesday morning.
