Ian Hayles has been given the green light by the delegates to contest the Western Westmoreland seat for the People's National Party (PNP) in the next general election.
Mr. Hayles was the lone candidate vying for the seat after the other aspirant, Garfield James, asked for his name to be removed from the ballot.
General Secretary of the People's National Party Dr. Dayton Campbell says just over 50 per cent of the delegates turned out to cast their ballots on Sunday.
Delegates were made to vote 'yes' or 'no' since there was only one candidate on the ballot, Dr. Campbell explained.
He said 735 of the party's 1,400 delegates in the constituency turned out to vote, with 730 voting 'yes', two voting 'no' while three ballots were spoilt.
The delegates in South East St. Ann will have their say next week Sunday as to who will contest the seat on their behalf.
Patricia Duncan Sutherland, Wavell Hinds and Dr. Kenneth Russel are vying for the votes of the delegates.
