Illegal rum factory raided & two men arrested

Two men are now in custody, while another is being sought after the police smashed an illegal rum distillery operation over the weekend in the community of Homestead in St. Catherine.

According to reports, about 12:00 on Saturday, July 2, police personnel from the St. Catherine North Street Crime Unit acting on information went to premises on McVickers Lane where an abandoned building is located.

A search was conducted and 14 cases of empty Wray and Nephew 750 millilitre bottles, 2 cases of empty Appleton bottles and 2 sealed cases of one litre bottles of Jamaican rum were found.

No one was arrested in that raid.

However, shortly after, the team received another tip which led them to another premises on McVicker Lane.

The cops found three men inside a house.

On seeing the lawmen, one of the men reportedly fled the scene while the others were nabbed.

The cops then went to the rear of the premises where they found five sealed cases of Wray and Nephew bottles, along with two empty 55 gallon and 15 gallon plastic containers.

Other equipment used in the illegal trade were also found.
