Halshane Burke reports
The trial of Constable Noel Maitland for the July 2022 murder of his girlfriend, Donna-Lee Donaldson, has been adjourned until July 7th.
Prior to Thursday's adjournment, the chief crime scene examiner at the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM), said he saw several stains resembling blood on a pair of brown drapes, a wall and a cushion cover when he visited Mr. Maitland's apartment on July 28, 2022.
The examiner is the prosecution's seventh witness.
Donna-Lee's mother, Sophia Lugg, said she last saw her daughter on July 11, 2022 when she left home with Mr. Maitland. The social media influencer, swimwear business owner and customer service representative went missing on July 13, 2022.
During evidence in chief, marshalled by the prosecution, the examiner said he was accompanied by two of his colleagues, representatives from the JCF and the forensic laboratory, who visited Mr. Maitland's apartment about 1:59 p.m. on July 28, 2022.
Continuing his testimony, the forensic examiner said he photographed the stains. He said the cushion cover was collected and placed in an envelope while the drapes were wrapped in brown paper and sealed. Both packages were labelled.
According to the witness, after concluding his examination, he went to the Half Way Tree Police Station where he also examined a pickup truck and took pictures. He testified that there were no stains resembling blood found on the truck.
Along with murder, Mr. Maitland is charged with preventing the lawful burial of a corpse.
