The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) is probing a fatal shooting involving a member of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) in St. Ann on the weekend.
The deceased is 40-year-old Rhodain Smikle of Wild Cane, Cave Valley, St. Ann.
He was shot during a confrontation with a Constable who is assigned to the Kingston Western Division.
It's reported that about 2:25 on Saturday afternoon, a member of the Jamaica Defence Force, who is the brother of Mr. Smikle, went to visit relatives in Wild Cane, accompanied by his friend from the JCF.
The police say, Mr. Smikle was known to attack members of the community.
They said the visit by his brother was aimed at restraining him for transportation to a medical facility for treatment.
But, on arrival, Mr. Smikle allegedly became boisterous and attempted to attack the two members of the security forces with a knife and a machete.
The policeman ordered him to drop the weapons, but he refused.
The cop reportedly discharged four warning shots into the air, but Mr. Smikle still advanced toward the men, moving the weapons in a stabbing motion.
The policeman again discharged his firearm, hitting Mr. Smikle.
He was taken to hospital where was pronounced dead.
