Sagicor Bank officially reopened its Black River branch on Friday morning, restoring banking services to the capital of St. Elizabeth after the severe damage caused by Hurricane Melissa.
The original branch was destroyed by storm surge during the hurricane, with the contents of the building wrecked by flooding.
In response, Sagicor has moved quickly to re-establish operations, bringing in two containers that have been repurposed to serve as a temporary banking facility.
The bank says plans are already in place to rebuild the Black River branch on a permanent basis.
The reopening is especially significant as it is the only commercial bank operating in the St. Elizabeth capital.
