INDECOM Commissioner Hugh Faulkner and Winsome Callum, Director of Corporate Communications, JPS
The Independent Commission of Investigations [INDECOM] said on Sunday afternoon that it was collecting statements in connection with Saturday's fatal shooting of two men by the police in Old Harbour, St Catherine.
The killing of 23 year old Nigeria Bailey and 21 year old Daniel McKenzie sparked fiery protests by residents who have challenged the police's version of events.
INDECOM Commissioner Hugh Faulkner told Radio Jamaica that the incident again highlighted the need for members of the force to utilise body worn cameras.
He is urging residents to allow his team to conduct its investigations without any further disruption in the community.
Members of the security forces were forced to seek cover after coming under attack from angry residents who hurled stones and bottles at them.
JPS appeal
The protests continued on Sunday morning and got so bad that the light and power company, JPS, resorted to making a public appeal to the authorities to restore order to the area to allow the power company's work crew to access its Old Harbour Bay based plant.
Director of Corporate Communications at JPS Winsome Callum told Radio Jamaica News that the tension in the community was presenting a challenge for the company as well as other power companies located in the affected community.
