Officials of the Department of Corrections were up to late Saturday afternoon finalising the transfer of inmates housed at Fort Augusta Correctional Centre in Portmore St. Catherine, in anticipation of the island being significantly affected by Hurricane Matthew.

The Fort Augusta inmates (all females) are being transferred to Horizon Adult Remand Centre in St. Andrew.

National Security Minister Robert Montague disclosed that trainee warders were also being assigned to prisons to augment existing security provisions.

The correctional facilities are adequately stocked with food and medications, as well as standby power, with a number of standby generators having been rented, the Minister added.
