As of July 15, Jamaican smokers will no longer be able to light up in public places.
The policy decision was announced in Parliament on Tuesday afternoon by Dr. Fenton Ferguson, Minister of Health. He said at these specific areas NO Smoking signs will be posted.
Dr. Ferguson listed several places such as enclosed buildings, on public
transportation, places of work and all government buildings. It would also
include venues where sporting events are taking places.
The Health Minister said this move was part of Jamaica's thrust to meet its international obligations to enact measures to reduce the use of tobacco use and the exposure to tobacco smoke.
