Jamaica Fire Brigade records management system to be digitised

Local Government and Rural Development Minister Desmond McKenzie

Local Government and Rural Development Minister Desmond McKenzie has announced that the Jamaica Fire Brigade's records management system will be digitised in a bid to improve efficiency in the national fire service.

Mr. McKenzie said the move forms part of the government's commitment to establish a first world fire service.

"In addition to providing inventory management, this system will streamline the JFB's entire building inspection process for properties. We are seeing huge buildings going up across the country. The Jamaica Fire Brigade plays a critical role in the approval process of construction buildings in this country," he noted.

"This system will ensure that the inspection schedule - the report of violations and compliance tracking - it will store building plans islandwide in one database, thus giving firefighters quick access to floor plans and fire escape routes," added the minister.

Mr. McKenzie said testing for the new system is under way.

"It will provide life tracking for our personal equipment to ensure maximum safety and efficiency. The first in a series of five sets is being tested at this time," he said, calling the system a "game changer" for the brigade.

Minister McKenzie, who was speaking during the Sectoral Debate in Parliament on Tuesday afternoon, said the Jamaica Fire Brigade is now at full capacity - a first in Jamaica's history.
