The Ministry of Legal & Constitutional Affairs is reporting progress in compiling the laws of Jamaica into a searchable database.

Minister of Legal & Constitutional Affairs Marlene Mahaloo Forte told the House of Representatives on Tuesday that the Jamaica Legal Information Portal is being tested, "that is to say, it has released for beta testing."

The Minister, making her contribution to the Sectoral Debate, explained that this phase represents "an internal launch, marking the completion of one phase of the project, allowing us to move to the next phase, where content is being populated and the features of the application are being tested."

She said the portal will make legal information "easier to access and understand."

"There's also an Advanced Search feature that allows you to search by legal topics," she said, explaining that when searching for information "you can also find the subsidiary legislation (and) all regulations made under the Act."
