The Jamaica Used Car Dealers Association is reporting an increase in imported vehicles to the island for 2016 when compared with the corresponding period last year.
Lynvale Hamilton, President of the Jamaica Used Car Dealers Association, says the increase is up by 20 to 30 per cent this month.
Hamilton cited better credit terms by financial institutions as well as the Government's push to mobilise the security force with used cars.
"We do believe that the more flexible lending terms that the banks adopted and lower interest rates contributed (to this) and the fact that the government decided to use used cars for the police force. That contributed to the increase in cars."
Hamilton said the model cars that are highly sought by consumers include Toyota Corollas, Rav 4's, Honda CRVs... the consumers really stick to those cars, there has been no change," he said.
