Jamaican family devastated after nine relatives die in tragic Florida crash

  

A Jamaican family is in mourning following a crash in South Florida in the United States which claimed the lives of nine members.

 

A 14-year-old boy from a Kingston based high school was among the victims.

 

"Bwoy, mi a tell yuh. I was also supposed to be on that family trip. I was supposed to be there, and mi seh mek mi son go enjoy himself more because all a dem going is mostly children, yuh know, so mi a seh mek him gwaan go enjoy it with him rest a family. And this is what happened," said a distraught District Constable Michael Hall, the father of 14-year old Michael Hall Jr, who died in the tragic crash in South Florida on Monday.

 

Michael Jr, a student of Dunoon Technical High school, was among nine people killed in the crash.

 

The ages of the victims range from 2 to 60 years old.

 

District Constable Hall, who is assigned to the Kingston Eastern police division, said the tragic incident is a big blow for him and his family.

 

He said all the victims were close relatives. Apart from his son, his sister, nephew, ex-wife, step mother were among the victims. He also disclosed that his brother is currently hospital but suicidal following the tragedy. 

 

He told our news team that his son received his visa last month and was taken to the US to enjoy the holiday. 

 

"Mi promise him seh mi aguh carry you go a foreign. Mi take the time from work, you know, just to carry him and spend as much time with him, and all of this," he bemoaned. 

 

Commanding Officer for the Kingston Eastern Police Superintendent Tommy-Lee Chambers said District Constable Hall has been left devastated and heartbroken by the loss of his relatives. 

 

"The incident has left the Kingston Eastern family and community in shock and grief. Our area chaplain, police, family and friends are in dialogue with him and we will provide all the support that is needed at this time. I ask everyone to remember him in their prayers," said Superintendent Chambers. 

 

District Constable Hall described his son as quiet and disciplined, adding that "He's one a dem good one deh weh parents nah fi stress dem self."
