Jamaican woman jailed in Antigua for escaping from immigration centre

Jamaican Tiffanie Stephanie Howell was on Tuesday sentenced to seven months in jail by the All Saints Magistrate Court in Antigua for escaping custody more than a week ago.
 
Howell, a hairdresser, was on the run for a week and surrendered to the Immigration Department on Sunday.
 
She pleaded guilty to the charge of escaping lawful custody, which carries a maximum sentence of one year in jail.
 
Howell and another Jamaican, Donnalee Samantha Salmon, escaped from the Immigration Department's Detention Centre on January 20 where they were awaiting deportation.
 
The women broke a bathroom window to escape.
 
According to the Antigua Observer, Ms. Salmon was apprehended Tuesday night.
