Five men accused in a major guns-for-drugs racket between Jamaica and Haiti, four years ago went on trial on Monday morning before the Corporate Area Criminal Court.
Those on trial are Lumsden Legister, Antonio Banton, Orrett McKenzie, Kenrick Bennett and Richard Braham.
They are accused of importing guns and ammunition into Jamaica.
Government prosecutors led evidence that in December 2007, four of the defendants were captured by the Cuban authorities, while they were transporting the shipment of guns and ammunition.
A senior investigator from the Transnational Crime and Narcotics Division, testified that on December 27, he and a team from the Jamaica Defence Force Coast Guard Unit went to Cuba to meet officials there.
He said on their arrival in Santiago, the Cubans handed them a box with a shipment of guns and ammunition.
He also said the Cubans handed over a group of Jamaica prisoners to them.
He said the men and the weapons were then transported back to Jamaica, as part of a probe into the guns for drugs trade.
