There were disruptions at Jamaica's international airports on Wednesday, after US authorities ordered the grounding of all flights leaving the United States.

The US Federation Aviation Authority handed down the order after the NOTAM system which provides pilots and air traffic controllers with critical information before they take off, such as runway hazards or adverse weather conditions, broke down Tuesday night.

Audley Diedrick, President of the Airports Authority of Jamaica, told Radio Jamaica News that while Norman Manley International Airport (NMIA) in Kingston was affected, it was Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay, St. James that bore the brunt of the negative impact.

He said NMIA had three delays and two cancellations, while Sangster reported 22 delays and a cancellation.

Mr. Diedrick said the situation should improve by Thursday, as airlines expect their flights will be back on schedule.
