The Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) has unveiled a new Digital Combat Uniform to replace the camouflage uniform worn by members since 1992.
It will have land and naval variations and is up to 50 percent more effective at camouflaging troops.
The digital camouflage pattern comprises small rectangular pixels.
The new uniform also has built-in security and identification features that are not easily duplicated.
The uniforms, which will become standard issue as on Thursday, are said to be a more cost effective alternative.
A statement from the JDF says an area of concern regarding the old uniform is that its phasing out by larger militaries has led to uniform stocks becoming accessible to civilians.
This has presented a breach of security as the uniforms often end up in the hands of criminals, as discovered in recent police/military operations.
