JIS website hacked

The website of  the Jamaica Information Service (JIS) has been hacked on Monday night.

The website, which is the main provider of  information on government policies and activities, was shut down, following the cyber attack, which was discovered about 9 o'clock.

Visitors to the web page could not access the site, and were greeted with a message stating: "Hacked by Holacko."

The message remained on the site for about an hour, after which it was replaced by a notice stating that it had been shut down for maintenance, and  would be back up shortly.

The source of  the attack was unclear. It was confirmed, however, that an investigation had been launched.

The hacking took place just weeks after Julian Robinson, Minister of State in the Technology Ministry, announced that security arrangements for government web sites had been improved, following several attacks since the start of  the year.
