JLP blames Opposition Leader for stalling Jamaica's republic push

 

The Jamaica Labour Party is taking aim at Opposition Leader Mark Golding, stating that he is hampering Jamaica's transition to a republic.

 

Chairman of the Jamaica Labour Party's Communication Task Force, Senator Abka Fitz-Henley, is urging Opposition Leader and PNP President Mark Golding to abandon what he describes as the opposition's delaying of Jamaica becoming a republic.

 

Senator Fitz-Henley says the opposition should put politics aside and support the move, which he says is in the country's best interest. 

 

"Jamaicans might note that the Opposition Leader stood in Parliament and committed to moving forward concerning areas of constitutional adjustments where there's agreement between the administration and the opposition. He alluded to Jamaica deposing of the UK monarchy as head of state as among the areas of agreement where action should be taken with alacrity. As Jamaica begins to celebrate 64 years of independence, I think now would be a good time for the Opposition Leader to commit to abandon delay tactics and move forward towards Jamaica achieving republic status," he urged.
