St. Mary police hail reduction in murders

 

The St. Mary Police are reporting a significant decline in murders so far this year. 

 

This is consistent with crime trends being recorded across all the police divisions. 

 

Assistant Superintendent Andre Quest says the police is recording an over 60 per cent drop in murders alone. 

 

"The parish of St. Mary is experiencing a 63 per cent reduction in murders right across the parish. This means that we are on the right path. The days when St. Mary used to be plagued with murder is a thing of the past. St. Mary is not just a beautiful parish, it's also parish that we all share not just as stakeholders, not just as business owners, but residents. And we cannot and will not alow persons to come in, destroy the place and just leave it like that," urged ASP Quest, who was speaking at a town hall meeting on Thursday evening.

 

The police say the parish ended the second quarter of 2026 without a murder and achieved 104 consecutive days without a murder or any major incident.

 

Superintendent Anthony Wallace, Commanding Officer for St. Mary, hailed the achievement as a testament to the unwavering dedication, professionalism, and commitment of the hardworking men and women of the St. Mary Division.

 

Superintendent Wallace also credited the division's success to the strong partnerships forged with residents, community leaders, churches, schools, businesses, and other stakeholders. 

 

He encouraged a continued collaborative approach to build on the gains achieved.
