JN Bank says its ATMs did not cause debit card skimming breach that affected some customers

By Kimone Witter

Jamaica National Bank says investigations so far have confirmed that the debit card skimming breach that affected a number of its customers in Morant Bay, St. Thomas did not occur at JN Bank automated teller or point of sale machines.

The bank says it is in dialogue with other financial institutions, which are investigating.

Reports of the fraudulent activities have also been made to the police.

On Monday, 13 JN Bank members in Morant Bay reported unknown ATM and point-of-sale withdrawals from their accounts between January 6 and 7.

An additional six reports were received Tuesday.

JN says preliminary findings indicate that debit cards of the affected members were skimmed.

The bank says it continues to monitor all accounts to ensure their integrity.

Customers of the bank are advised that if they identify discrepancies or unauthorised activity on their accounts, they should contact the JN Member Care Centre or immediately visit their nearest bank branch to make a report.
