The Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) is replacing some of its metres as part of ongoing efforts to improve its infrastructure for customers.
The company said starting this month, 35,000 electro-mechanical meters will be replaced with more modern digital meters.
The initiative will cost approximately US$1.6 million and will involve both business and residential customers across the island.
The new digital or electronic meters have been approved by the Bureau of Standards Jamaica.
They have digital display screens, and are therefore much easier to read than the older electro-mechanical meters with dials that look like clocks.
