JPS says power restored to 90% of customers

By Nakinskie Robinson

Just over a week after Hurricane Beryl lashed the island, the Jamaica Public Service Company is reporting that power has been restored to 90 per cent of its customers.

That figure represents some 612,000 of its total customer base of 692,000.

The powerful hurricane caused extensive damage to electrical infrastructure island-wide, leaving scores of households in darkness.

The light and power company says across the fourteen parishes it has identified some areas that will be of priority over the next 24 to 48 hours.

Among them are Junction, Kincaid and Belview in St. Elizabeth as well as Morgan's Pass, Colonels Ridge, Kellits, Four Paths, Comfort Road, Hayes, Corn Piece, and the Lionel Town Hospital in Clarendon.
