JPS to cancel bills sent to some customers without power after Beryl

Jamaica Public Service Company customers who received estimated bills, but were without power for the billing cycle during and after hurricane, will have their bills zeroed.

 

The announcement was made by Energy Minister Daryl Vaz during a press conference on Wednesday.

 

"In cases where estimated bills were sent out to persons who had no supply, JPS will cancel these bills and generate new bills representing zero consumption, and therefore zero dollars owed for those bills," he announced, calling it good news for the customers who have been complaining about the issue since the light and power company said it would send out estimated bills following the passage of the hurricane. 

 

Minister Vaz also revealed that electricity has been restored to another 7,000 customers in St. Elizabeth, with a total of 34,549 now back on the grid. 

 

About 3,247 remain without power. 

 

"JPS continues to navigate factors such as the weather and the terrain, but remains on track to meet...its commitment to the government to achieve full restoration of electricity services by August 31st," the minister disclosed.
