Chairman of the Kingston and St. Andrew Municipal Corporation, Mayor Andrew Swaby, says in the coming weeks, the municipality will be making public what he describes as acts of corruption and nepotism in the sale of lands in the Corporate Area.
Speaking at a People's National Party meeting on the weekend, Mayor Swaby said the municipal corporation has been seeking guidance from the Integrity Commission in its investigation into the sale of lands.
"I don't see the Integrity Commission as an enemy. I see them as a friend who [works] in the interest of Jamaica. That's what I see them as," said the mayor in a jab at the government who has seemingly been at odds with the Commission.
He said the findings of the investigation so far are concerning.
"I can tell you, Comrades, within a week or two, we will have those reports out to make it public," he noted, as he remarked sceptically on the number of government officials involved in building construction.
"A di when first government mi ever see weh so much a dem inna building houses.... And when I see some land weh dem want to take from the KSAMC and sell it to dem friends - prime property land - I say no, no no," the mayor asserted.
Mr. Andrew Swaby added that the KSAMC is implementing measures to ensure its financial statements can stand up to public scrutiny while claiming this was not the case under the previous administration of the municipal corporation.
