Labour Ministry steps into St. Elizabeth PC dispute

The Ministry of Labour has intervened in an issue at the St. Elizabeth Parish Council which led to the staff going on strike Friday morning.

The employees walked off the job to protest against the appointment of Director of Finance at the Manchester Parish Council, David Harris, to the position of Secretary Manager at the St. Elizabeth Parish Council.

The employees say Director of Finance in St. Elizabeth, Gerald Lee, has been acting in the post from July 1 and was unceremoniously removed to make way for Mr. Harris.

Mr. Lee is to revert to his former position as Director of Finance.

The workers, who are represented by the Jamaica Association of Local Government Officers, say they are not opposed to officers being transferred but are upset about the manner in which it was done.

Union delegate Dorothy Dacres says Mr. Lee was treated with disrespect.

The Ministry of Labour has invited the stakeholders to a meeting on Friday.
