Two residents of Mount Prospect
A major land slippage in a section of Mount Prospect, West Rural St. Andrew on the weekend has left scores of residents marooned.
Residents say many families are stranded as they are unable to navigate a deep chasm created by the slippage.
A Mount Prospect resident, who made contact with Radio Jamaica News, described the situation as "a disaster" with the community split in two.
Another resident said the number of people displaced is cause for concern, estimating that 500 residents have been affected.
She added that the residents had not heard from "the authorities" up to early Sunday.
To compound the residents' frustration, she said they had been reporting emerging issues with that section of the roadway from before the local government election, which took place in February.
