Justice Minister Delroy Chuck announced on Friday that live streaming of select criminal and civil court cases to the public is being contemplated, in a bid to make the judicial system more transparent, while enhancing accountability.
He said discussions on the matter are underway with the Chief Justice, acting Court of Appeal President and several parish judges.
Mr. Chuck said live streaming will enable more persons to see what happens in trial proceedings without being in the courtroom which, he argued, offers limited access.
If the proposed arrangement is approved, interested persons will be able log onto the designated website to gain access to the proceedings, as is already being done in relation to the United Kingdom based Privy Council and in other courts across the world.

The Justice Minister was speaking at the opening of the Port Maria Justice Centre in St. Mary.
The facility will offer several alternative dispute resolution services.
These include restorative justice, child diversion and mediation.
