Local Government Department and RGD team up to deliver birth certificates

The Department of Local Government is partnering with the Registrar General’s Department (RGD), to deliver more than 2,600 birth certificates islandwide.

The move forms part of outreach activities to observe Local Government Month.

State Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister with responsibility for Local Government, Robert Montague, made the announcement during a recent ground-breaking ceremony for a new Municipal building for the St. Elizabeth Parish Council.

The State Minister said the initiative is partly geared at ensuring that the registered poor obtain their Tax Payer Registration Number (TRN), so that they can access benefits under the National Health Fund (NHF), and the Jamaica Drug for the Elderly Programme (JADEP).

Mr. Montague said it was discovered that many elderly folks cannot access available social welfare programmes, as they do not have a TRN.
