Major crimes in St. Thomas decline by 28 per cent

The St. Thomas Police are reporting a 28 per cent reduction in major crimes across the parish since the start of the year.  
    
Commanding Officer Superintendent Beau Rigaby, presented figures while addressing a recent meeting of the St. Thomas Municipal Corporation.
    
There have been seven murders compared to eight last year.
    
Sexual offences also declined. There have been six cases compared to 15 last year. Superintendent Rigaby is also reporting an 80 per cent clear up rate for this category of crime.
    
He said despite the overall reduction, there is still a challenge as it relates to aggravated assault. This category of crime has doubled since January, with 10 cases.
