Tragedy unfolded at Sugarman's beach in St. Catherine where a 10-year-old girl is suspected to have drowned and a man died while attempting to rescue her.
Members of the Marine Police and Jamaica Defence Coastguard along with fishermen started the search for the two yesterday afternoon, shortly after the incident.
The body of the 21-year-old man was recovered this morning after it was seen floating in the water.
The search continues for the child.
It's reported that the child was in the water with other people about 4:30, when she got into difficulty.
An alleged eyewitness says they were warned not to swim in the rough sea, especially after a hurricane.
