The police have charged a 37-year-old Damion Beckford in connection with the abduction and rape of a 10-year-old girl in Mineral Heights, Clarendon earlier this month.
The incident reportedly occurred on September 8, while the child was on her way to school.
It is reported that the child exited a taxi at the entrance of the Mineral Heights housing scheme where she was approached by a man who convinced her to enter his car.
The child was taken to a neighbouring community where she was sexually assaulted.
Following the ordeal the child was taken back to the Bustamante Highway in the vicinity of Mineral Heights Primary School where she was a student.
She was able to walk to school where she informed staff of the incident.
Beckford was being detained for questioning. He is to appear in court on Thursday.
