A man who absconded after being tried and sentenced to prison in his absence three years ago was on Monday captured by the police in St. Mary.

Ojay Miles, a labourer of Long Road district in the parish, was apprehended during an operation along Main Street in Annotto Bay.

He had been on the run since 2021.

Acting Superintendent Anthony Wallace, Commanding Officer for St. Mary, says Miles was convicted for illegal possession of a firearm and assault at common law for threatening a 16-year-old girl with a gun.

The man had been given bail, but failed to show up for court and was sentenced in absentia to nine years in prison.
