CWI boss says more conversations needed about two tier test format

Report by RJRGLEANER Communications Group Sports Reporter Renardo Brown

Cricket West Indies (CWI) president Dr Kishore Shallow has weighed-in on the potential dual tiered system for test cricket, noting there has not been any discussion at the executive level of the International Cricket Council (ICC).

Dr Shallow has not explicitly condemned the idea of the Caribbean nation being forced to play exclusively against smaller test playing nations should talks of a two-tiered system materialize in the coming years.

Speaking on The Mason and Guest Show in Barbados on Tuesday night, Dr Shallow said while talks of a two-tiered test system is not new, he’s unaware of the it being discussed at the ICC level in recent years.

The new format would see the West Indies playing in Division 2  along with Bangladesh, Ireland, Afghanistan and Zimbabwe, while the first tier would comprise Australia, England, India, New Zealand, South Africa, Sri Lanka and Pakistan.
