Manhunt underway after US health executive shot dead in New York

A manhunt is underway in New York City after the head of US insurance company UnitedHealthcare was shot and killed in what police called a targeted attack.

Brian Thompson was fatally shot in the back and leg about 6:45 Wednesday morning outside the Hilton hotel in Midtown Manhattan.

The New York Police Department says the suspect, wearing a distinctive grey backpack, fled the scene and was last seen on an e-bike in Central Park.

Mr. Thompson, head of the largest private insurer in the United States, lived in Minnesota and was in New York to speak at an investor conference later in the day.
