Fitzroy Wilson, Mayor of Port Maria

Concerned about road crashes in St. Mary, Mayor of Port Maria, Fitzroy Wilson, is calling for the National Works Agency (NWA) to implement safety features along several hotspots.
Mr. Wilson says the NWA has been slow in responding to this appeal from the St. Mary Municipal Corporation.
"We would have been clamouring for some rumble strips along the main thoroughfare from especially Ian Fleming International Airport down to Tower Isle. We have been seeing along the Wilderness stretch, where we have been having fatal accident upon fatal accident. We have been having serious accidents that might not result in fatalities. And what is the NWA doing about these things?" he questioned, pointing to the uptick in road fatalities for 2025.
He raised the issue at the monthly municipal corporation meeting on Thursday, urging intervention from central government.
Mr. Wilson said potholes and poorly lit roads also need attention.
"Many of these roads, persons traversing them, although they are supposed to do so with care, but sometimes the potholes in these roads and the darkness, it is something that is of more danger. I am going to use this forum today to call on the Prime Minister and the Minister of Works to give St. Mary some attention," he pleaded.
