Mayor of Spanish Town Norman Scott has welcomed construction of a commercial complex along the Spanish Town Bypass in St. Catherine.
The complex is being developed on a 30-acre plot of land that had been prone to flooding when there was heavy rainfall.
"I want to really commend these developers who have really taken this land and is (sic) now putting it into development which is going to make the parish, the town, again much more upgraded...and it is going to do very well for the town of Spanish Town," Mayor Scott declared.
Consultant civil engineers on the project, Premier Land and Water Development, said storm water drainage infrastructure in the area will be upgraded as part of the construction.
"What we plan to do is upgrade the drainage works through the community of Africa, which falls south of our boundary and we intend to improve the general global drainage infrastructure to mitigate any future flooding events but primarily to improve the existing conditions of the members of the community," said Zachary Fray of Premier Land and Water Development.
He added that a significant portion of the drainage infrastructure works should be completed within another eight months.
