Meeting to avert strike by NWC workers still ongoing

By Clinton McGregor

At news time, officials of the Finance Ministry and National Water Commission were still engaged in a meeting with unions representing NWC workers who have threatened strike action.

NWC workers are restive over the protracted implementation of a job evaluation exercise.

They had issued a strike notice on the management of the Water Commission on the weekend.

The unions contend that the job evaluation will result in adjustments in the pay scales of the workers and should have been implemented last November.

The workers are also asking for the alignment of all jobs with their corresponding pay bands along with a comprehensive listing of all jobs evaluated.

They say, to date, there has been no word on when the new pay scales are to take effect.

The last meeting between the parties was held on Monday at the Ministry of Labour.
