Meeting to determine if Kingston's Mayor should relinquish post at JLP

A decision is to be made soon on whether Kingston's Mayor Senator Delroy Williams will relinquish his post of Administrative Manager for the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) headquarters.

Senator Williams was appointed to the position prior to his elevation to Chairman of the Kingston and St Andrew Municipal Corporation. However following his appointment as KSAC Chairman, there have been calls for him to resign to prevent any potential conflict of interest in the day-to-day running of the Corporation.

Senator Williams says he's well aware of the concerns. He says a decision on the way forward will be made public following a meeting with the top brass of the JLP.

Senator Williams says he plans to meet with Party Leader Andrew Holness and other members of the JLP executive before the end of the week.

In the meantime, officials of the Kingston and St. Andrew Municipal Corporation are scheduled to meet later today to determine whether the Municipality will extend its gesture of allowing shoppers to leave their vehicles in no-parking zones without having them towed.

Kingston's Mayor Senator Delroy Williams says, during the Christmas period, a freeze was placed on the towing of vehicles in the business district to encourage more shoppers. Senator Williams says the move was aimed at promoting economic activity within the city.
