Education Minister Senator Ruel Reid is advising schools that it is against the law to refuse admittance to students because of their hairstyles.
The issue has again arisen following a report that a student of Kensington Primary School in St. Catherine, was denied full access to the institution during the orientation process, after the principal discovered she wore locks.
The Ministry is investigating.
Senator Reid had outlined that "the existing Education Act and regulations do not allow a school administrator to bar anybody from access to school or even to devotions by virtue of somebody's religious affiliation."
He said the long-awaited policy dealing with the grooming of hair in public schools is almost ready and should be made public by next month.
