The two persons who died in a crash along a section of the May Pen to Williamsfield leg of Highway 2000 in Toll Gate, Clarendon on Monday have been identified as 29-year-old Luchion Bennett and his daughter Lushana Bennett.
It's reported that, around 2:00 p.m., Mr Bennett, was driving a motorcar with his daughter, and a female companion when the vehicle had a tyre blowout.
He lost control of the vehicle, which veered off the road, crashed through a fence, and rolled several times in bushes some distance away from the highway before coming to a stop.
All three occupants were thrown from the vehicle.
So far this year, there have been 219 road fatalities, surpassing the 211 recorded over the corresponding period last year.
On Track
In the wake of this latest tragic crash, Dr Lucien Jones, Vice-Chair of the National Road Safety Council, observed that July is on track to becoming the month with the highest number of road fatalities this year.
He reported that 28 people have died in fatal crashes so far this month, "so the question of sanctions again raises its head; how far do we go to try to change the behavior of our road users, to bring a sense of calm and to put an end to this madness."
