Money seized in anti-narcotics operation heading to Government's coffers

More than J$1-million  seized by the police more than three years ago during an anti-narcotics operation in St. Andrew will be going to the Government's coffers.

A forfeiture order was obtained last Thursday by the Financial Investigations Division (FID) for US$11,500 and J$266,000, along with interest.

According to a statement from the Finance Ministry, the cash was seized on October 2, 2014, during an operation conducted by the Transnational and Narcotics Division at the apartment of  Anthony Daniels on Winchester Road.

A Lexus motor car which  Daniels had in his possession was searched and 18 pounds of  compressed ganja allegedly found.  He was subsequently charged with breaches of  the Dangerous Drugs Act.

He was subsequently acquitted of  the charges.

Despite this, the FID proceeded with a forfeiture application in relation to the cash found.
