Senior Superintendent Michael Phipps, head of the Kingston Western Police, says police personnel will be deployed throughout the division to prevent any clash between supporters of the candidates during Thursday's nomination day exercise.
The division has been experiencing a flare-up of gang violence over the last several weeks.
SSP Phipps told Radio Jamaica News that there will be a heavy deployment of members of the security forces on Thursday to keep the peace.
"We have had meetings with critical persons involved with the elections and these includes our caretakers, Electoral Office of Jamaica representatives and other persons involved with the process. We have identified the routes to be used by candidates in order to avoid any possible clash of opposing supporters. We are imploring all persons to support our efforts in regards to us having an incident-free day," he urged.
The police have said all plans are fully in place for monitoring of nomination day activities across the island.
