More structure coming for Custodes

Regulations are coming which will provide more structure to the regime under which the island's custodies operate.

Cabinet has approved the introduction of the Custos Rotulorum Bill in the House of Representatives.

The Bill will establish a legal framework that will create a formal structure in which Custodes are to operate.

It will also standardise, promote and preserve the integrity and status of the office as well as provide a legislative basis and authority by which a person may qualify for appointment as Custos.

Additionally, the Bill will dictate the matters relating to the removal or resignation of a Custos and the penalties that may be imposed where the holder of such an office fails to perform the prescribed functions and responsibilities.
