Prime Minister Andrew Holness

Some 4,108 housing units are in the pipeline for St. Elizabeth over the next six years.

This was announced by Prime Minister Andrew Holness during a handing over ceremony for Friendship Oaks housing development in Goshen, on Friday.

He said the housing solutions come as the government works to ensure accessible and affordable houses for residents.

The full complement of houses will be completed by 2030, but Mr. Holness explained that while it may seem like a long time, the government must "go through some processes which are designed to ensure that the final product that you as the beneficiary gets is sustainable, and that it fulfills all the rules and obligations for procurement, for public sector investment and administratively, so that no one can say that there was any corruption or wastage involved".

Of the more than 4,000 units, Gilnock Hall is set to receive 2,425 one and two bedrooms by 2029.

Other housing solutions are expected to be built in Friendship Oaks Phase 2, the Luana housing development and Holland Estate, among others.

The earliest completion date is set for 2026.
