KSAMC begins emergency road-patching programme

The Kingston & St. Andrew Municipal Corporation (KSAMC) has launched an emergency road-patching programme to repair badly damaged roads and help ease traffic congestion across the municipality.

The KSAMC says potholes and other road defects are contributing to traffic gridlock, particularly in downtown Kingston and New Kingston.

City Engineer Xavier Chevannes says damaged sections of roadways are forcing motorists to slow down or stop, disrupting the smooth flow of traffic.

He says the Roads and Works Department has been assessing link roads, major thoroughfares and parochial roads, with priority being given to areas where repairs could improve traffic movement.

Mr. Chevannes says fixing the damaged sections should allow motorists to navigate the roads more easily and improve efficiency across the road network.

Meanwhile, Kingston Mayor Andrew Swaby says work is already underway on 20 to 25 roads, following the completion of the Corporation's mitigation programme.

The initiative covers community roads as well as some major thoroughfares normally maintained by the National Works Agency.

Mayor Swaby confirmed that the KSAMC is assisting with repairs to some NWA-managed roads.
